I like to assume that there was empirical testing involved.  I imagine starting from a dead stop on a moderate grade, a line of empty Bud Light cans stacked in a row behind one of the rear tires.

 You'd be surprised. It's not all perfectly level from the Rockies to the Appalachians. Missouri itself has the Ozarks in the SW corner.

Does the brake not keep the truck from rolling back? I mean, I drive a manual and have never had an issue rolling back. I agree that he is doing it wrong.
